I've been where you are.
Hi, I’m Tasha. I’m a clinical and developmental psychologist who has spent more than twenty years working with people navigating grief and other major life transitions. I was also widowed young with two small children, so I know profound grief personally as well as professionally.
I’d seen The Drift Zone in my clinical work long before I lived it. The support that surrounds a widow in the first months and years quietly falls away, and from the outside they start to look like they’re “doing well”… they’re back at work, managing, coping day to day… but in the clinical sessions with me widows would describe something else entirely.
They felt like they were going through the motions. Present for their lives without really being in them.
A year or so after my husband died I found myself in exactly the same place. I was somewhere past surviving, but nowhere near fully living.
Despite my training and clinical experience I was completely and utterly adrift.
It took me years to work out what that in-between stage actually was, and, perhaps more importantly, what was standing between me and rebuilding a life I loved despite the enormous loss I’d had.
